OUR MISSION, VALUES & PRINCIPLES

MISSION

Future Mountain Movers’ Men Grow programs encourage children’s nutrition and wellness. Our agriculture programs provide exposure and opportunities that teach kids about healthy eating and agriculture.

GUIDING VALUES/PRINCIPLES

To promote healthy eating and teach kids to be the future of agriculture sustainability and food justice.

THE CHALLENGE

The percentage of children (6-11 years of age) and adolescents (12-19 years of age) who are overweight and obese has risen to over 34%. The nutrition intake of children and youth (ages 2-17 years of age) needs improvement (America’s Children: Key National Indicators of Well-Being (2009), p. 64).

PROGRAM GOALS

Our overall aim is to educate and promote healthy eating, participate and be the future of agriculture sustainability, food justice and food sovereignty.

Our program goals are to:

  • Implement a learning garden to expose kids to growing trends in the field of agriculture
  • Teach kids the importance of healthy eating
  • Increase access to healthful foods produced by gardens
  • Encourage community action that supports healthier kids
  • Create support tools for educators, who play a vital role in modeling and teaching healthy choices

Achieving these goals will result in an increased contribution to reducing the proportion of young and adolescent men of color who are overweight or obese.
