MISSION

The Men Grow Agriculture program provides young men with the developmental skills, agricultural literacy and support system needed to transition young boys to young men pursuing post-secondary education or careers in agriculture.

GUIDING VALUES/PRINCIPLES

To promote, participate and be the future of agriculture sustainability, food justice and food sovereignty.

WHAT IS THE MEN GROW AGRICULTURAL PROGRAM?

The Men Grow Agriculture Program is a unique opportunity for our FMM INC. Members who are seeking  future degrees and careers in agriculture. The evolution from agriculture has brought with it numerous benefits. These include a rapidly increasing job market, better quality of food and fibers; a greater variety of products; improved nutrition; increased mobility of people.and.

Our evidence and research-based activities & curricula makes up the exciting Men Grow program. The program offers many opportunities to influence & promote development through expanded learning and FUN. All activities & curriculum are committed to providing participants with tangible skills & rigorous coursework that increase agricultural literacy. The results: opportunities for college or careers in agriculture related fields.

The Men Grow Agriculture curriculum is provided by the University of Georgia's College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences and the Sustainable Agriculture Department. 

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

  • Learn how to start, manage and operate a small farm business
  • Small fruit and vegetable production
  • Soil making (composting) project
  • Tending to livestock and small ruminants production
  • Completing soil making (composting) and preparing for planting
  • Weed/parasite control & harvesting
  • Preparing soil for winter
  • Opportunity to receive the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program
  • Opportunity to complete the UGA Journeyman Certificate Program
